Autumn in Maine

After the hustle and bustle of Summer, when the kids return to school and the vacationers return to home to face reality, Mainers start to take a few moments longer to breathe in the changing air. You feel it as soon as it hits, the absence of the summer haze and humidity, and the new presence of a cooler clearer breath. The sun still shines warm, but the crispness of the air fills the soul with a certain peace, yet sorrow for the Summer memories gone by. Another busy Vacationland season down, and the slower, restful seasons approaching with each passing day.
Early Autumn is still marked with plenty of days on the water, hikes and adventures - but the sleeveless shirts and cut-offs are replaced with sweatshirts and flannels. As October approaches, much of Maine has reached its peak foliage - a kaleidoscope of colors, vibrant reds, oranges and yellows giving the trees their grand finale of color before falling dormant for Winter.
Those living on the coast tend to follow their compasses North, more inland - visiting local state fairs, visiting apple orchards & pumpkin patches, corn mazes or exploring Wolfe’s Neck Farm or Pineland Farms. As November approaches, the winter camps for skiing, hunting and leisure start to come alive. Mainers set their sights on recovering from a cool Fall day of adventure by cozying up next to the fireplace, enjoying a nice warm meal and perhaps sharing a spirit or two and swapping stories with a longtime friend.
